Culcheth Hall Pre-Prep Department provides a happy and secure atmosphere for boys and girls aged 2 to 4 years ensuring that learning is 'fun'. The skill of our fully qualified and experienced staff enables each child to reach its full potential.

The Pre-Prep Department's curriculum provides a foundation for learning across the National Curriculum subjects. Pupils are carefully prepared for Key Stage 1 National Curriculum tests throughout Years 1 and 2. The three Rs are the cornerstone around which the curriculum is planned, with particular emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy.

Traditional values of courtesy, good manners and caring for one another are taught and encouraged.

The Pre-Prep Department provides a wide range of appropriate learning activities which cover the following areas-

The Early Years Foundation Stage or EYFS (Pre-Prep) is taught to 3-5 year olds (boys and girls) according to the QCA guidelines. These are organised into six main areas of learning:

  • Communication, language and literacy,
  • Mathematical development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world,

  • Creative development

Significant emphasis is placed on educational success, with a ratio of one member of staff to 8 pupils.

Small Teaching groups - a key to providing a sound educational foundation
Teaching in small groups and individually ensures a thorough grasp of reading, writing and number work, proving a solid foundation on which the future education of our pupils is built.

Excellent facilities to underpin the learning process
Our superb amenities include a supervised play area, gymnasium, assembly hall and sports field which enable us to offer a full and varied curriculum including music, drama, PE and sport.

Regular school visits to the farm and other suitable places of educational interest form an integral part of the pre-prep activities.

Offer of a place to the Pre-Prep Department is dependant on an interview between the parents and the Headmaster. Your daughter will then be invited to spend a school day or a morning with the Prep class. Physical, social and intellectual maturity of applicants are also important factors when applying for a place.

The curriculum offers a sound foundation for the smooth transition to the Prep Department.
